Oven temperature sensor short circuit — sensor reading too low resistance

What E014 means on your Bosch range

Error code E014 is the counterpart to E012 (open circuit). While E012 means the sensor circuit is broken, E014 means the sensor’s resistance is too low — a short circuit condition. The board reads near-zero ohms instead of the expected 1,000+ ohms, which it interprets as an extremely high temperature. The board shuts down heating as a safety measure.

Symptoms

  • The oven won’t heat — same as E012
  • E014 on the display when oven mode is selected
  • The display may show an extremely high temperature reading

Common causes

  • Shorted sensor probe — moisture inside the sensor probe creates a low-resistance path between the wires
  • Pinched sensor wire — the wire passing through the oven wall is compressed, causing the two conductors to touch
  • Corroded connections — corrosion at the plug creates a conductive bridge between the two terminals

Troubleshooting steps you can try

  1. Inspect the sensor connector — unplug the sensor at the back and look for visible corrosion or moisture.
  2. Dry the connector — if moisture is present, dry it thoroughly and reconnect.
  3. Power reset — unplug for 60 seconds after drying the connector.

When to call a technician

Same repair as E012 — the sensor needs testing and likely replacement. A technician will measure resistance (a shorted sensor will read near 0 ohms instead of ~1,100 ohms at room temperature). If the sensor tests normal when disconnected, the wiring has a short that needs tracing. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
