What E305 means on your Bosch range
Error code E305 indicates an internal communication failure on the electronic control board. The board’s processor has detected a data error in its internal circuitry — either between the main processor and sub-modules, or between the control board and the user interface display board. This is typically a board-level hardware failure rather than an external component issue.
Symptoms
- E305 appears on the display, sometimes with garbled characters
- The oven and/or surface controls may stop responding
- The range may turn off completely and not respond to any input
- The display may flicker or show random segments before E305 appears
Common causes
- Power surge damage — a voltage spike damages components on the control board
- Board component failure — capacitors, relays, or processor components fail from heat exposure over time
- Loose ribbon cable — the flat cable connecting the main board to the display works loose
- Moisture damage — steam from cooking enters the control housing and causes corrosion
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Power reset — turn off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. A longer reset can clear volatile memory errors on the board.
- Check for pattern — if E305 only appears during or after oven use but not with surface burners, the issue may be heat-related and intermittent.
When to call a technician
E305 usually requires control board replacement. A technician will check the ribbon cable first (a cheaper fix), then diagnose whether the main board, display board, or both need replacement. Board replacement is the most expensive common repair on Bosch ranges. A surge protector is recommended after repair to prevent recurrence. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
