What E6 means on your Bosch wine cooler
Error code E6 indicates that the ambient (room) temperature is outside the wine cooler’s designed operating range. Bosch wine coolers are typically rated for ambient temperatures between 41°F and 95°F (5°C to 35°C). When the room is too hot or too cold, the compressor cannot maintain the target wine temperature, and E6 warns you of this condition.
Symptoms
- E6 appears on the display, usually in very hot or very cold environments
- Wine temperature drifts from the set point
- In very cold rooms, the compressor may not run at all (wine can get too cold)
- In very hot rooms, the compressor runs continuously but can’t reach the target
Common causes
- Garage installation in extreme weather — unheated garages can drop below freezing in winter or exceed 100°F in summer
- Direct sunlight — placement near a window or in a sunroom raises the ambient temperature around the unit
- Near a heat source — placement next to an oven, dishwasher, or heating vent
- Poor ventilation — built-in installations without adequate clearance trap heat
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Check room temperature — use a thermometer to verify the ambient temperature. If it’s outside 41–95°F, E6 is working correctly.
- Relocate if possible — move the wine cooler to a climate-controlled area.
- Improve ventilation — for built-in installations, ensure the required clearances are met (check your model’s installation guide).
- Shield from heat sources — ensure the wine cooler isn’t adjacent to appliances that generate heat.
When to call a technician
E6 is an environmental warning, not a component failure. No repair is needed — the solution is to change the installation environment. If E6 appears in a room that’s within the normal temperature range, the ambient sensor may be faulty, which a technician can diagnose and replace. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
