What E43 means on your Bosch washer
Error code E43 indicates a motor control circuit fault — specifically, the triac (the electronic switch that controls motor speed and direction) on the control board has failed. The triac regulates the current flowing to the motor. When it shorts or opens, the board cannot control the motor safely and triggers E43.
Symptoms
- The drum doesn’t move at all — no wash or spin
- The motor may run at full speed uncontrollably (if the triac shorts closed) before the board kills power
- E43 appears immediately when a cycle tries to start the motor
- A brief burning smell from the control board area (in severe cases)
Common causes
- Triac burnout — the triac component on the control board fails from overcurrent or power surges
- Motor winding short — a partial short in the motor draws excessive current through the triac, causing it to fail
- Power surge — a voltage spike damages the board’s motor control circuit
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Power reset — unplug for 5 minutes. In some cases, the triac has a thermal protection that may reset.
- Check for overloaded drum — an extremely heavy load can stall the motor and damage the triac. Remove excess items.
When to call a technician
E43 almost always requires control board replacement or, in some cases, board-level repair by a specialist who can replace the individual triac component. A technician will also test the motor windings to ensure a motor fault didn’t cause the triac to blow — replacing the board without fixing the root cause will result in another failure. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
