What E29 means on your Bosch washer
Error code E29 indicates that the washer is not receiving water. The flow meter or pressure switch hasn’t detected incoming water within the expected fill time after the inlet valve was commanded to open. This could be a water supply issue, a valve problem, or a sensor fault.
Symptoms
- The washer doesn’t fill with water — the drum remains empty
- E29 appears within the first few minutes of a cycle
- You may hear the inlet valve clicking but no water flowing
Common causes
- Water supply turned off — the tap or shut-off valve is closed. The most common and simplest cause.
- Clogged inlet hose filter — the mesh screen in the inlet hose or at the valve connection traps sediment and restricts flow
- Failed inlet valve — the solenoid valve doesn’t open despite receiving a command from the board
- Kinked or frozen inlet hose — the supply hose is pinched or, in cold-climate installations, frozen
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Check the water supply — verify the tap or shut-off valve behind the washer is fully open. Turn it off and on again to confirm operation.
- Clean the inlet filters — turn off the water supply, disconnect the inlet hose(s) from the back of the washer, and clean the small mesh screens. Also check the hose-end screens.
- Check water pressure — open a nearby faucet to confirm adequate water pressure. Low pressure can prevent the valve from filling the washer in time.
- Inspect the hose — ensure the inlet hose isn’t kinked or crushed behind the machine.
When to call a technician
If the water supply is confirmed and filters are clean but E29 persists, the inlet valve has likely failed and needs replacement. The valve is mounted at the back of the washer where the hoses connect. A technician will test the valve’s solenoid with a multimeter. This is a straightforward repair. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
