What E01 means on your Bosch dryer
Error code E01 indicates that the NTC temperature sensor inside the dryer drum is not sending valid readings to the control board. Without accurate temperature data, the dryer cannot regulate heating to protect fabrics or manage cycle timing. The board may shut down heating entirely as a safety measure.
Symptoms
- Clothes remain damp after a full cycle
- The dryer runs but produces no heat or inconsistent heat
- E01 appears on the display during operation
- The cycle may end prematurely
Common causes
- Failed NTC sensor — the thermistor develops an open or short circuit from heat cycling over thousands of hours
- Sensor wire damage — the wire running from the sensor through the drum housing can break from vibration
- Connector corrosion — lint and moisture combine to corrode the sensor plug-in connection
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Power reset — unplug for 60 seconds to clear a transient sensor fault.
- Clean the lint filter — a severely clogged filter can cause overheating that pushes the sensor outside its range. Clean the filter and the filter housing.
- Run a test cycle — restart with a low-heat program. If E01 reappears, the sensor needs replacement.
When to call a technician
The NTC sensor is typically located inside the drum housing and requires disassembly to access. A technician will test the sensor’s resistance (should read 10k–15k ohms at room temperature) and check the wiring. This is usually a quick, affordable repair. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
