What E3 means on your Bosch vent hood
Error code E3 indicates a communication error within the vent hood’s control system. This can be between the touch panel and the control board, or an internal fault within the control board itself. Bosch vent hoods have relatively simple electronics compared to other appliances, so E3 is less common but typically points to a board issue.
Symptoms
- The control panel is unresponsive — buttons or touch controls don’t work
- E3 displayed on the indicator
- Fan speeds or light settings cannot be changed
- The vent hood may be completely non-functional
Common causes
- Power surge — a voltage spike damages the control board circuitry
- Grease contamination — cooking grease vapors enter the control housing and cause corrosion on the circuit board or touch panel
- Loose internal connector — the ribbon cable between the touch panel and board vibrates loose
- Moisture damage — steam from cooking enters the electronics housing
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Power reset — turn off the breaker for 60 seconds. Communication faults can sometimes be cleared with a clean restart.
- Clean the control panel — wipe the touch panel surface with a lightly damp cloth. Grease film on capacitive touch panels can cause erratic input.
When to call a technician
If power cycling doesn’t resolve E3, the control board or touch panel likely needs replacement. A technician will check the internal connectors first, then test the board. Vent hood control boards are generally less expensive than those in other major appliances. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
