Bosch vent hood types
Bosch offers range hoods in four mounting styles: wall-mount chimney, under-cabinet, island (ceiling-mount), and downdraft (telescoping). Each is available in multiple widths (30″, 36″, and some in 42″) and finishes (stainless steel and panel-ready for custom installations).
The 300, 500, 800, and Benchmark series each offer increasing levels of airflow (CFM), noise reduction, lighting quality, and filtration. The Benchmark series features built-in blowers with up to 600 CFM, dishwasher-safe baffle filters, and LED lighting with adjustable color temperature.
Ducted vs. recirculating
Every Bosch range hood can operate in either ducted or recirculating mode:
- Ducted — exhausts air outside through ductwork. Far more effective at removing smoke, steam, and odors. Requires a duct run to an exterior wall or roof. Our venting guide covers ducted vs. ductless trade-offs.
- Recirculating — filters air through charcoal filters and returns it to the kitchen. No ductwork needed but less effective. Charcoal filters must be replaced every 3–6 months.
For downdraft systems, see our downdraft installation guide covering countertop cutouts, cabinet space requirements, and ductwork routing.
Common vent hood problems
- Excessive noise — loose filters, worn motor bearings, or ductwork issues. Noise troubleshooting guide.
- Reduced airflow — grease-clogged filters, obstructed ductwork, or backdraft damper issues. Filter maintenance guide.
- Fan not working — motor failure, capacitor issue, or control board problem.
- Lights not working — bulb replacement or LED driver failure.
- Error codes — all vent hood error codes.
Maintenance
- Clean metal grease filters every 2–4 weeks (dishwasher-safe on most models)
- Replace charcoal filters every 3–6 months on recirculating installations
- Wipe the hood exterior monthly with stainless steel cleaner
- Clean fan blades and blower housing annually
- Inspect ductwork connections yearly for looseness or grease buildup
Choosing the right hood
Our vent hood buying guide helps you match CFM rating to your cooking style, choose between mounting types, and understand the noise ratings (sones and dBA) that matter in open-concept kitchens.
Professional service
