What E012 means on your Bosch oven
Error code E012 on Bosch wall ovens indicates that the temperature sensor has a short circuit — the opposite of E011 (open circuit). The control board reads abnormally low resistance from the sensor, which it interprets as an impossibly high temperature. As a safety precaution, the board disables all heating functions.
Symptoms
- The oven won’t heat in any mode
- E012 appears on the display
- The display may show an unrealistically high temperature
Common causes
- Shorted sensor probe — moisture inside the probe body creates a low-resistance path
- Pinched wiring — the sensor wires are compressed together, often at the point where they pass through the oven wall
- Connector corrosion — mineral deposits or moisture bridge the two sensor terminals at the connector
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Check for moisture — if the oven was recently cleaned with water, moisture may have entered the sensor connector. Let it dry for 24 hours or use a hair dryer on the connector area.
- Inspect the connector — look for visible corrosion or damage at the sensor plug.
- Power reset — unplug for 60 seconds after drying.
When to call a technician
If drying doesn’t resolve E012, the sensor needs replacement. Same repair as E011 — the probe mounts inside the cavity with one or two screws. A technician will verify the short circuit with a multimeter before replacing. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
