What E111 means on your Bosch oven
Error code E111 signals that the convection fan motor is not operating. The control board monitors the fan during convection cooking modes and triggers E111 when it detects no rotation. The convection fan circulates hot air evenly throughout the cavity — without it, convection and European convection modes cannot function properly.
Symptoms
- E111 appears when a convection mode is selected
- Regular bake and broil modes may still work (they don’t require the fan)
- Uneven cooking results — hot spots and cold spots in convection mode
- No fan noise from the back of the oven during convection cycles
Common causes
- Fan motor burnout — the motor fails from heat exposure and age
- Blocked fan blade — a loose oven rack or fallen food item contacts the fan blade
- Wiring failure — the connection between the motor and board breaks from heat cycling
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Check for obstructions — remove all racks and items from the oven. Check if anything has fallen behind the rear panel where the fan is located.
- Listen carefully — start a convection cycle and listen for any sound from the rear. A humming without spinning suggests a seized motor; silence suggests a dead motor or wiring issue.
- Power reset — unplug for 60 seconds to clear a false trigger.
When to call a technician
Convection fan replacement requires accessing the motor from behind the oven — which means pulling a wall oven from its cutout. A technician will test the motor and its wiring, replace the fan assembly if needed. You can continue using standard bake and broil modes while waiting for repair. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
