What E006 means on your Bosch oven
Error code E006 indicates that the door lock motor is not functioning correctly. Bosch wall ovens use a motorized lock mechanism that engages during self-clean cycles and high-temperature operations. The control board monitors the lock motor’s position feedback — when the motor can’t reach the locked or unlocked position within the expected time, E006 is triggered.
Symptoms
- Self-clean cycle won’t start because the door can’t lock
- The door remains locked after a self-clean cycle — can’t open the oven
- E006 appears when attempting self-clean or when the lock should disengage after cooling
- A grinding or clicking sound from the lock mechanism
Common causes
- Lock motor failure — the small motor in the lock assembly burns out or its gears strip
- Bent or misaligned lock arm — the mechanical arm that extends to hold the door can’t travel its full range
- Residue in lock mechanism — grease and carbon from self-clean cycles accumulate and jam the lock
- Position switch failure — the switch that tells the board the lock is in position fails
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Power reset — if the door is locked, turn off the breaker for 5 minutes. Some models will retract the lock on power restoration.
- Wait for cooling — if E006 appears after self-clean, the lock won’t disengage until the cavity cools below 400°F. Wait at least one hour.
- Manual release — some Bosch ovens have a manual lock release accessible from the top of the door frame. Check your model’s manual.
When to call a technician
If the lock mechanism has failed, the lock assembly needs replacement. This involves removing the oven from the wall (for built-in models) or accessing the lock from behind the control panel. A technician will test the lock motor and position switches. Avoid using self-clean until the lock is repaired, as the oven cannot safety-lock. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
