What E14 means on your Bosch dishwasher
Error code E14 signals a fault in the water intake flow meter. This sensor measures how much water enters the dishwasher during each fill cycle. When the flow meter doesn’t register the expected volume of water — or registers no flow at all — the control board triggers E14. The dishwasher may stop filling or overfill if the sensor gives erratic readings.
Symptoms
- The dishwasher takes an unusually long time to fill
- The cycle starts but stops with E14 before washing begins
- Water level in the tub appears too low or inconsistent between cycles
- Occasional E14 errors that don’t appear on every cycle
Common causes
- Clogged inlet filter — the small mesh screen inside the water inlet valve traps sediment and reduces flow below the sensor’s detection threshold
- Flow meter malfunction — the turbine-style meter can jam due to mineral deposits or debris
- Low water pressure — household water pressure below 20 psi (1.4 bar) may not generate enough flow for the sensor to register
- Water inlet valve failure — the solenoid valve doesn’t open fully, restricting water flow
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Check household water pressure — open the kitchen faucet fully. If the flow seems weaker than normal, the issue may be a partially closed supply valve or a broader plumbing problem.
- Clean the inlet filter — turn off the water supply, disconnect the inlet hose from the dishwasher, and remove the small mesh screen. Clean it under running water and reinstall.
- Verify the supply valve — ensure the shut-off valve under the sink is fully open, not partially closed.
- Power reset — turn off power for 60 seconds to clear any false sensor readings.
When to call a technician
If cleaning the inlet filter and confirming water pressure doesn’t resolve E14, the flow meter or inlet valve likely needs replacement. Both components are accessible from the base of the dishwasher. A technician will test the flow meter’s output signal and the inlet valve’s solenoid resistance to pinpoint the failed part. Codes may vary by model generation and series.
